Towny is ModernMC's land-claim and community system. Residents join towns, towns can join nations, and town plots let players decide how land is used.
Towny prices and some options are set by the server. Use /towny prices in game for current costs and /towny ? for the command list.
Join a town
Ask a town's mayor or an assistant for an invitation. When invited, follow the prompt and accept it. If a town is open to join, use /town join <town>. Check a town first with /town <name>, then use /town leave if you decide to move on.
Start a town
- Choose a suitable place in the Towny world and stand where you want the town spawn to be.
- Check the creation cost with /towny prices and make sure you have enough money.
- Create the town with /town new <name>.
- Invite players with /town invite <player>. Use /town to see your town's status and available actions.
Claim and manage plots
Towny land is divided into chunks. Press F3 + G in Java Edition to show chunk borders. A town's mayor and permitted ranks expand its claims. Town members can claim plots that the town has made available to them with /plot claim.
- Use /town here to see information about the town and plot where you are standing.
- Use /towny map to view nearby claimed land.
- Use /plot to see plot commands and options.
- Ask town leadership before changing or building on land that is not yours.
Town and nation chat
Use /tc for town chat and /nc for nation chat. Use the VentureChat channel command shown in the chat help to return to public chat.
Town banks across the network
The ModernMC Towny Bridge lets you look up town information while connected to another backend. On those servers, /t or /town shows town information; /t residents [town] and /t online [town] list residents. Town members with the needed Towny rights can use /t deposit <amount|all>; eligible town leaders can use /t withdraw <amount|all>.
On the Towny server, Towny's own commands handle Towny actions. Bridge commands are available only when you are on another network backend, and withdrawals require the appropriate town rank or permission.
Form a nation
Town leaders can check /nation and /towny prices for current nation requirements and options. Nation leaders can invite towns, manage allies, and set nation ranks. The in-game command help shows the options available to your rank.
